Comparative analysis of qPCR and metagenomics for detecting antimicrobial resistance in wastewater: a case study
The World Health Organization has identified antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a major global public health threat. Detecting ARGs in environmental samples, wastewater, animals, and food has become more important. A study comparing quantitative PCR (qPCR) and metagenomic sequencing (MGS) found qPCR was more sensitive in diluted samples with low ARG concentrations, while MGS was more specific in concentrated samples. Both methods are suitable for profiling the resistome of wastewater and other environmental samples.
